A challenge for charity following Wainwright's famous walk through
three beautiful National Parks

The final destination Robin Hoods Bay near Whitby on the East coast where you throw the pebble that you collected and lovingly carried from St Bees' beach in Cumbria on the West coast.
Ray and Yvonne Ashmore are taking up a challenge in memory of their daughter, Lindsay, who was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2005.  Despite surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy Lindsay died on 16 May 2009 aged just 26.  During her illness Lindsay raised thousands of pounds for the Samantha Dixon Brain Tumour Trust and Cancer Funding for Cornwall and now, to celebrate her memory on her birthdays, her mum and dad continue to raise funds for these two charities.  The challenge this year is to walk Wainwright's Coast2Coast from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire.  A total of more than 192 miles, this walk will take Ray and Yvonne 15days and they will have to walk up to 23 miles a day. The walk starts on Sat 19 May and ends on Sat 2 June.
To follow Ray and Yvonne's progress take a look at their Itinerary.  If all goes to plan, this website will automatically show you approximately where Ray and Yvonne should be according to the date and time of day and you should get a Google fix if you click Where are they now? . Be prepared to zoom in or out on the + or - for optimum location. Also, be prepared that some areas may lack detail due to the remoteness of the location.  You may be able to view satellite or to activate the little orange man or street view to see the terrain. You will also be able to look at the map of the area to be walked on a particular day, and the heights above sea level, which may give you some idea of how strenuous the walk is in that location.  You will also be able to read any messages sent to the website by Ray and Yvonne, and you can leave your own messages too. See Message Board
Ray and Yvonne have been in training for months in Devon, Cornwall and Exmoor.

Despite being very ill, Lindsay was determined to take part in any publicity. This shot, taken by her favourite journalist, Keith, was to be the last picture of her. If you wish to donate to Cancer Funding for Cornwall in support of this challenge
